Top Five Spots to Visit in Kuala Lumpur

The top five destinations you must visit on your next stop in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

1. JALAN ALOR

What was once a modest chicken wing stall 30 years ago, Jalan Alor has transformed into an icon amongst Kuala Lumpur's extensive food scene. Kuala Lumpur is all about eating, and it’s best done in the bustling streets, inclusive of annoying barters and smells that you aren’t sure if you like or not. Best visiting times are between 10 pm and 2 am but don't fret, if you're in for a late one, these markets do stay open until the crazy hours of 5 am.

2. BATU CAVES

Being from New Zealand, caves are something that doesn’t usually phase us. However, this hidden treasure is not your average hole in rock. Found within the country's limestone abutments is one of Malaysia's most distinctive and geographical features. Despite the fact it’s beautiful, there are monkeys. You can feed them, and get up close and personal. However, just be careful, they world-renowned for being some of the best pick pocketers.

3. LI YEN RESTAURANT

This Cantonese dining experience is the ‘don’t miss’ on our list. With traditional a la carte and dim sum specialities for both lunch and dinner, there really isn’t a reason to not stop by. This award-winning restaurant won our taste buds and our hearts with their impeccable service, quaint atmosphere and marmite pork dish. Yes, Marmite marinated pork; the way to the heart of any true kiwi. Alongside this dish and many others is the divine Li Yen imperial jewel, a decadent scallop encased in hand crafted salted egg yolks. Although not the most appealing sounding dish to a westerner, these will blow your mind regardless of if you are a seafood lover or not.

4. SPA VILLAGE

A place to indulge your senses, ease your mind and treat your body. The Spa Village nestled in The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur is your one-stop to escape the heat and enter into bliss. Spa experiences start from their signature milk bath treatments to indulgent caviar facials and exotic body scrubs. Stay tuned to read our full review of The Spa Village soon.

5. MARBLE 8

This bungalow bar exudes an elegant and stylish vibe and provides one of the best views city views of the Petronas towers. Head here early in the night to relax and start with an eccentric cocktail or stay on later for where the elite come to drink and party. We recommend the Ragged Ocean cocktail with 12-year-old lavender-infused Cragganmore. Regardless of your choice of time to visit, the cocktails and views alone make it worth the visit for the perfect Instagram post.

Happy travelling!
