What You Should Have in Your Autumn Wardrobe

As the cooler months draw in and we sadly bid farewell to summer, it's essential we have our wardrobes prepared.

Asides from ensuring you're not on the verge of hypothermia each day you head out the door you want to have those base pieces to carry you through autumn into the cool winter days. The best way to prepare for a new season is by picking foundation pieces that can work in with interseasonal pieces. Camis and t-shirts, coats and dresses and this season's favourite trend, frayed denim.

1. FRAYED HEMS

You will no doubt get a few smart comments from your Grandfather about the cat ruining your jeans, but there is no doubt frayed hems are the denim trend of the season. Pair with an oversized grey hoodie and a leather jacket or fit them with a silk blouse and heels for a day to night look.

2. STATEMENT SLEEVES

Nothing is better than keeping warm and maintaining a stylish edge during the winter months. An elongated sleeve allows for full coverage of the wrist making a statement out and about as well as keep those fingers toasty warm.

3. SUEDE... EVERYTHING

Leather is often considered the be-all and end-all of the cold season. This year, however, we have a game changer. Sueded skirts, jackets and of course, boots allow for a textured look without the biker gang feel. You can even opt for doubling your suede for a daring combination - very à la Olivia Palermo.

4. COLOURED BOOTS

I'm sorry my ever loved Beau Coop Jerrys... you're going to the back of the cupboard this autumn. It's all shades of coloured boots asides from black. Red, aqua, beige and purple - simply take your pick.

5. BAG IT

There is no argument that it's tempting to take an outfit change to work during those autumn days. It's easy to get caught off guard with pouring rain or a sweltering summer-like day. A second outfit isn't necessarily a bad idea, but an overnight look-a-like bag is. Opt for a chic yet structured medium-sized bag like below. This will cater for a backup pair of jeans without looking like you're carrying the kitchen sink.
