How Three Stylish Mums Do Motherhood, Beauty and Life

NIKKI ALLWOOD

What is your favourite memory of being a mother so far?

Having the girls walk down the aisle with me on my wedding day. I'm so so glad they were able to experience that with us, although they won't remember, it is nice to have of pictures it.

What are your beauty tips for busy mothers balancing work, family and life?

I get eyelash extensions which makes me feel far more confident because I don't often get the chance to put makeup on! I apply fake tan once a week including my face so I feel like I have an even complexion. Once again, this is because I don't wear much makeup. I also try to do a hair mask once a week.

What is your ideal Mother’s Day gift?

I have been eyeing up a signet ring for AGES and the hubby has finally given in to my constant nagging! It has Frankie and Harper'sinitials on it so I’m super excited for that. A sleep in would be nice too!

What is the best piece of advice your mother has given you?

To take time out for myself and Matt (my husband). It is easy to make our children top priority which, is obviously super important but Matt and I need a happy marriage too. Mum and Dad mind the girls once a fortnight for us to have a date night.

Who is your ultimate style inspiration?

My ultimate Mum crush and style inspo is Pip Edwards. I live in activewear and she happens to be the creator of the most bad ass activewear company. I am beyond obsessed and super into Kayla Boyd, she's amazing and always looks flaaaaawless.

AMANDA BETTS

What is your favourite memory of being a mother so far?

There are too many to count. Breastfeeding (sorry Izaac!) was a blessing for me. Him driving me on a road trip to Hawera. His deep, philosophical ahead-of-his-time mind and soul. Something that reflected the value of my existence in this world as a mother and human was my Christmas present made by Izaac. It was called, ‘You Are…’, it’s a collection of imagery with titles and descriptions of what I am not only to Izaac, but how he sees I am to the world. So there were titles like, You are the uplifter, the finder, the path, the lone tree….it had us all wailing.

What are your beauty tips for busy mothers balancing work, family and life?

Gosh, I’ll be honest and say I’m not big on beauty routines. Water is everything. I can’t leave the house without mascara, crimson eyeshadow to give my lids proper separation from the rest of my skin and make my green eyes pop. I have a good gold or bronze eyeshadow to look good without looking like you’re trying.

What is your ideal Mother’s Day gift?

Anything that is made by the hands, heart, soul and mind of my son. He is not allowed to buy me things, only make me things. And also when mothers around the world are being honoured for the work they do.

What is the best piece of advice your mother has given you?

It would need to be from Grandmother, as my mother taught me resilience through beating me, to use my voice through silencing me and strength through neglecting me. My grandmother, however, taught me love, compassion, understanding, acceptance. She was full of wisdom. A beauty was, ‘Always listen, fully listen, to people. Get them talking rather than always doing the talking. There will be nothing you can’t achieve if you do’. There are still times when I’m like, ‘Damn it! I talked too much….again!’

Who is your ultimate style inspiration?

My style inspiration would have to be Corrine Roitfeld, ex-French Vogue editor. That woman is so talented, and her son has gone on to do ‘Equipment’ shirts. SUCH exquisite pieces. In NZ, I adore Margi from Nom*D’s style. But maybe that’s also her heart and soul too. Love that woman.

KAREN PARSONS

What is your favourite memory of being a mother so far?

Sitting on the beach at Whangamata watching all three of my children in the surf together. I felt blessed to live in such a beautiful country with three equally beautiful, healthy children enjoying all New Zealand has to offer.

What are your beauty tips for busy mothers balancing work, family and life?

Sleep, Water, Exercise and Wine.

What is your ideal Mother’s Day gift?

A nice dinner at home with my children sitting around the table solving the problems of the world.

What is the best piece of advice your mother has given you?

Enjoy them as they grow up so fast. It’s a bit cliché now but she has always said ‘Time is the best thing to spend on your kids!”

Who is your ultimate style inspiration?

I love from Nina from The Offspring - her style is elegant and has a bohemian element to it. I think if I could steal anyone's closet it would be hers!
